Here Turner has rendered a cursory sketch of trees in woodland or pasture. This drawing may be connected to the views of Colchester framed by trees on Tate D18163, D18165, D18167; Turner Bequest CCIX 3, 4, 5. The artist has inscribed a note at the foot of one of the trees reading ‘P’ (perhaps signifying ‘poplar’ or ‘pine’) and ‘acorn’.
