Joseph Mallord William Turner ?Trees c.1805

Joseph Mallord William Turner 1775–1851
Folio 10 Verso:
?Trees circa 1805
D40697
Pencil on cream laid paper 119 x 189 mm
Inscribed by John Ruskin in pencil ‘out of 190. JR’ top right, inverted

Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Not noticed by Finberg, this extremely slight, hasty and partial scribble is hard to interpret, but may be a small group of trees, drawn with the sketchbook inverted. Conceivably it is related to the views of the Thames at Richmond on folios 14 and 15 (D05441, D05442), the only other drawings in the book to be made in pencil only.
