This tracing of an Ionic capital was made from the bottom right portion of Diagram 52 (Tate D17070; Turner Bequest CXCV 100; see also Tate D40005) used during Turner’s lectures as Professor of Perspective at the Royal Academy. There is a watercolour of the same Ionic capital also based on a tracing (Tate D17078; Turner Bequest CXCV 108).
