This slight sketch, drawn with the page turned horizontally, shows the view up the Thames westwards through the northernmost arch of Southwark Bridge, under construction between 1815 and 1819, with part of Blackfriars Bridge – a pier with coupled columns – in the distance. The subject is discussed under the more detailed study on the recto (D10775), and there is a further sketch on folio 2 recto opposite (D10777), to which the current sketch effectively forms a continuation to the right.
