Turner’s use of his sketchbooks was often sporadic and this page contains a number of unconnected elements. The dominant drawing is pen-and-ink sketch which appears to show several figures and a rearing horse in the background. The subject is unidentified although it may be a copy of a work of art, or an idea for a composition. It appears to have been drawn over the top of an underlying pencil study of a landscape.
At the top of the page are several geometrical diagrams similar to the ones on the preceding page, see folio 30 verso (D13989).
