With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with a view of the Loire Valley near Tours. The scene has been located to the west of the city, near Saint-Cyr.1 This is one of a substantial number of sketches of Tours and its surroundings in this volume, a list of which is provided in the sketchbook introduction.
