With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with studies of riverside buildings near Tours. The scene has been located to the west of the city, near Saint-Cyr.1 This is one of a substantial number of sketches of Tours and its surroundings in this volume, a list of which is provided in the sketchbook introduction.
