The drawing is inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation. In varying degrees of detail it shows sailing boats, with a hull heeled over or careened on its starboard side at the centre, and figures apparently gathered around a block and tackle attached to the top of the consequently near-horizontal mast on the left. Compare details on folio 37 recto (D20653; Turner Bequest CCXXVI 35).
