A similar detached block appears from the opposite side in two sketches that culminate in a watercolour of Scarborough dated 1818 (private collection).1 The first of these is D11924; Turner Bequest CL 8 in the present sketchbook and the second is Tate D11971; Turner Bequest CLI 17a in the Scarborough 2 sketchbook.
