This sketch is only the faintest ghost and its subject cannot be confirmed. Finberg’s title must have been based on adjacent sketches of figures in open country on folios 2 verso–3 and 4 (D07857–D07858, D07860) and those of gun-dogs and sportsmen at the other end of the book.
The leaf is smudged with ink, apparently offset from inscriptions on an opposite leaf now removed from the book.
