The faintness of this sketch renders the subject difficult to read. There are possibly two views depicted here: one towards the top of the sheet, which appears to describe trees and houses in a landscape and one in the middle, which includes a road and some trees.
There is a sketch of an unrelated subject on the verso (D40414).
For the grouping and dating of these works, see the section Introduction.
Technical notes:
This sketch appears on one half of a large sheet bisected by the faint line of a fold; this half measures 145 x 192mm. Water damage has occurred, likely as a result of the 1928 Tate Gallery flood, causing discoloration on the right edge of the sheet.
