This sketch is the verso of D20402 (CCXXIV 105). Towards right of centre a tall, imposing building stands on top of a hillock, situated in the middle of a broad, flat stretch of land or possibly water. A series of diagonal lines running parallel above this hillock may serve to indicate light or atmospheric effects in the sky, further enhanced by touches of gouache. Some distance off, to the left of the hillock, the land rises slightly. In the foreground a gentle incline is suggested with trees and vegetation rising from left to right.
