Turner used the inside front cover of this sketchbook for various accounts relating to the refurbishment of his house and gallery at 48 Queen Anne Street West,1 and a list of Royal Academicians, which are transcribed below. Finberg has pointed out that the inscription ‘Far’ within this list must refer to Joseph Farington (born 1747), who died on 30 December 1821, helping to date the sketchbook and the tour it records to that year.2
Inscribed in pencil by Turner with the sketchbook turned to the right (the brass clasp at the top) are the following inscriptions:
