Inscribed in pencil by Turner ‘Barr[..]’ left towards bottom, ‘Corn’ bottom centre parallel to gutter.
 
Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
This cursory sketch shows the Fort Charlemont at Givet. The foreground has been inscribed with the words ‘Corn’ and ‘Barr’, perhaps shortening of barley.
