Turner visited Genoa in 1828, and perhaps again in 1828; see under Tate D33718 (Turner Bequest CCCXLI 39) for other drawings on coloured papers in the present section and elsewhere. In particular, there are two similar views over the harbour worked up in watercolour and gouache: one currently untraced,1 and the other in a private collection.2
