Turner’s route from Cockermouth to Whitehaven took him to Ennerdale Bridge and the western end of Ennerdale, the outline of which and the location of Pillar are included in his rough route-map inside the front cover of the sketchbook (D07537); a further inscribed drawing is on folio 25 (D07566) and see also folio 23 (D07563) for another possible view. The mountains here include the Great Borne, left, and Pillar, right.
