This distance view of ‘Dalkeith’ is framed at the right by two Italianate trees which also act to lead the eye into the distance. The spire of Dalkeith Church is positioned in the very centre of the picture, with the rooftop of what may be Dalkeith Palace on the right – making this a view from the east.
With the page inverted Turner has drawn a rough outline of the church spire and there continues from folio 69 verso (D13584) a sketch of an arched bridge which is similar to a sketch on folios 67 verso–68; (D13580–D13581).
