With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with studies of coastal scenery and clifftop buildings. The seaside sketches in this volume have been located to the regions around Dover, Folkestone, and Calais on each side of the English Channel.1 The drawings on folio 14 verso opposite (D24132; Turner Bequest CCLVI 13a) depict Folkestone.
