With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with multiple studies of the coastal terrain of Brittany. Amongst the subjects depicted, Tate curator Ian Warrell has identified islands in the Bay of Morlais and the Phare de la Lande close to the settlement of Carantec.1
