This rough and swiftly executed sketch shows the Burg Lahneck at left, overlooking the town of Lahnstein and the confluence of the Lahn and Rhine Rivers. In the distance towards right is the Schloss Stolzenfels, rendered in faint quivering line (see Tate D20158; Turner Bequest CCXVIII 20). An array of cursory marks suggest the lay of the riverbank in the foreground: trees, shrubbery, a pathway, perhaps also boats and figures.
