With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with studies of hillside buildings. A large fort-like building is included in the upper right-hand quadrant. These sketches may have been taken at the defensible towns of Mont Saint-Michel or Cherbourg. These towns feature on multiple pages in this volume, lists of which are provided in the sketchbook introduction for comparison.
