The subject was drawn with the page turned horizontally. Turner made a watercolour of the bridge and castle at Brecon, seen from close to the bridge, which was in the collection of James Blair and bequeathed by him to Manchester Art Gallery in 1917 (1917.92), another version of this composition came into the hands of A.J. Finberg and was sold at his Cotswold Gallery, London; for these see the discussion under folio 18 recto (D01263; Turner Bequest XXXVIII 13).
