This is one of three coloured subjects in this sketchbook, the others being folios 19 and 20 (D06384; Turner Bequest XCIX 16 and D06386; Turner Bequest XCIX 17). Here Turner indicates the brown and green paint of a barge and hints at the tone and fall of light and shadow on its sails and those of others nearby.
