This seems to be a view over the town of Bala towards Llyn Tegid, as independently observed by Eric Shanes.1 See Introduction to the sketchbook for Turner’s likely visit to the holiday home of Sir Richard Colt Hoare, Fach-Ddeilliog, during his longer visit to Tabley in 1808. The house stood on the opposite, eastern side of the lake and this drawing would have been made during a trip round or across it to the town.
Above the main subject, there are slight sketches of two mountain peaks, the one on right described as Cader Idris.
