This sketch records the view from the still-extant church path through fields to the west of Aysgarth, looking east1 over Aysgarth Church down Wensleydale, with Bolton Castle (see folio 17 recto; D11468) in the distance to the extreme left. The Belvedere Temple (see folio 12 recto; D11460) can just be made out against trees in the middle distance to the right.
Turner sketched similar views in the Yorkshire 2 sketchbook (Tate D11268, D11269, D11371; Turner Bequest CXLV 134a, 135, 187), which accompanied him on the same tour.
