The urban subject is unidentified, but may be Italian; see the Introduction to this section for further brief discussion and dating. Finberg was rightly tentative in his comparison with the Palazzo del Broletto in Como’s Piazza Duomo,1 as its imposing square tower is only superficially similar. Tate D33710 (Turner Bequest CCCXLI 31) is another view of a town square.
