For Turner’s visit to Tabley in 1808, see Introduction to the sketchbook. Following two views of St Peter’s Chapel alongside the Old Hall on folios 2 and 3 (D06985, D06986) and another perhaps of the bridge to the island in the Moat on which they stood, on folio 4 (D06987), this sketch might be thought to be the Old Hall itself (also see Introduction). However, it seems to be a different building and there appear to be hills in the background.
