See note to folio 10 of this sketchbook (D05404; Turner Bequest LXXXVII 29). This subject is continued on folio 12 verso (D05401; Turner Bequest LXXXVII 26), for which also see catalogue note. It appears inverted. When Ruskin broke up the sketchbook he split the two sections of this double-page spread, numbering the other ‘26’, thus breaking up Turner’s study of a single ship. The portions were rejoined when the sketchbook was rebound in 1934.
