This is the verso of D12243; Turner Bequest CLV 4. Finberg thought that the sketch was associated with D12245; Turner Bequest CLV 5, but there is no visual correspondence. Instead this sketch is to be associated with D12242; Turner Bequest CLV 3, representing the continuation to the left of the building at the left edge of that sketch, which was perhaps taken on the Grand Union Canal (see note to D12241; Turner Bequest CLV 2. This association confirms that Finberg’s numbering reversed the original page order. This folio is inscribed ‘Sched 164.15’, that is, sketchbook schedule number 164, page 15. This was inscribed on the verso of the original page 15 of the sketchbook. The page with which it can be associated would have been the following page in the sequence, and is indeed inscribed as page 16 in the same manner. Most of the pages were inscribed in this way.
