The location of these fortifications has not been established, but this sketch falls among a number of studies of shipping and topographical sketches in the Hamoaze and lower reaches of the River Tamar north-west of Plymouth Sound between folios 3 recto and 29 recto (D09671–D09703). What appears to be a shoreline battery on the left may be the same as the one seen on folio 16 recto opposite (D09688).
