Turner oriented the sketchbook vertically to execute these cursory landscape studies. The dominant lower view features rolling hills and a distant hilltop town or village. Above is a faint outline of buildings amid hills. The topographical detailing is sparse, making Turner’s location difficult to pinpoint.
