Finberg was surely right to associate this small house with a central block and a low wing at its side with Sandycome Lodge, Turner’s out-of-town retreat at Twickenham. A further idea for the roofing of the wing is on folio 55 (D07679). Turner bought the land in 1807 and began planning the building about 1811. Drawings occur in a number of sketchbooks.
