- Mikhail writes that Andrei will come back to him in twelve days. That he is has contracted malaria while he was in Bolshevo (an NKVD prison-commune near Moscow). Mikhail asks to send him money via Torgsin in order to buy winter clothes and food for Andrei. He writes that it is impossible to get any annual leave for him now, but he will try to. Pages are numbered later in red ink.
