Description
This letter is a part of three, addressed by Andrei to Berthe and/or Jacques Lipchitz and dated from 15th, 16th and 20th December. All three were kept together with the letter from Fanya Lipchitz to Jacques Lipchitz, dated 16 December 1934, in which she mentions 'letters from Andrei'. All are related to Andrei's request for a large amount of money, the purpose of which he does not explain. The draft letter from Berthe Lipchitz to the French ambassador in Moscow the letter suggests that Andrei asked for money to prepare the next escape from the USSR. In this particular letter to Jacques, Andrei several times mentions that from the new 1935 Year he will start a new and happy life. At the same time, he defiantly scolds France and the entire Western world and praises the USSR. He also mentions his recent work in the cinematography.
