Description
Full text in translation:
'Dear Friend,
I'm in St Louis station coming back from Houston, Texas. I went there to attend a few conferences so that it would pay for the cost of the travel but also so that I could create some relations that might give me some work. I have to say that it was a marvelous experience. Near the gulf, between the oil well where there is no soil and vegetation, it's not what we are used to seeing. Living in a house where everything reminds me of our dear Paris, sleeping in my room with a beautiful Matisse, Cezanne, Degas, Gauguin, Manet, Toulouse, Veuillard, Soutine or a Modigliani that I have seen. Without mentioning a portrait of Olga by Picasso that I don't like and that lives in the entrance. A charming old maid who has been there for 30 years and with who I've had a conversation about Modern Art that I will not forget so soon.
I have also visited other houses and everywhere I found audacity combined with measure because I also found some Chirico, Miro, Berard etc.
Fortune isn't missing on this point, but not for the sculpture, I have not seen anything valuable except for some crusts or old objects and even then, without much class.
Anyway, this journey makes me feel good, recently I have worked way too hard, exclusively on the 'Vierge' and my health has not been good, to the point that I wasn't able to find a moment to speak with you. It's almost time to continue my journey, it's 9am, tomorrow at this time I hope that I will be in New York and in the evening in Hastings to embrace my family.
The little one grows incredibly, with my wife it was not right, she had to have a small operation and had to stay in bed for three weeks. This brought disruption to my daily life, but it is much better now. I hope to have some of your news, good ones with memories from your family. Best wishes from your loyal Lipchitz'.
