- Purchased at Sotheby's Sale, 21st -22nd July 1980 [Lot numbers 201,204,208,211,223,224,227,228,229,233,239,245,250,261,262,266]. The letters were gathered from different rooms at Charleston Farmhouse (including the attics), by Quentin Bell, son of Vanessa and Clive Bell. They were lodged in the Library of King's College, Cambridge and then transferred to Sotheby 's in 1980 for the auction.

Description
Addressed from 8 Fitzroy Street. Addressed to Vanessa Bell, Charleston, Firle near Lewes, Sussex. The letter concerns general news and mentions George [Bergen] and 'Timmy'; the letter also discusses some of the art he has recently seen by artists including [Paulus] Potter, Rembrandt and [Thomas] Gainsborough. The letter is illustrated with a sketch of a small gas stove. The third page of the letter is written on the reverse of an invoice for fitting a lamp dated 31 Jul 1931 from H.T. Bradshaw to either Duncan Grant or Vanessa Bell. Includes original envelope.
