Description
The van is emblazoned 'Ayuda Medical de los Artistas de Inglaterra a las Fuerzas Internacionales Madrid' [Medical aid from the artists of England for the International Forces] and the people in the photograph are identified on the back as Andrews (orderly), Jeser (Sec S.M.A.C), Coombes (Chief Transport Officer our Madrid Field Hospital) and Chambers (Transport Advisor from London). The location of the photograph is given as 'Outside Hotel Florida Gran Via Madrid, April 37'. Presumably this is the ambulance bought with money raised from the auction of paintings by various British artists in Dec 1936.
