Bell is staying with Dorothy Bussy, whom she is painting with difficulty, and her daughter Janie. Describes a visit to gardener Alvilde Lees-Milne - owner of a pastel by Bell - who discusses a portrait of Edward Sackville-West by Graham Sutherland, an artist Bell dislikes. Also mentions André Gide's death mask, James Lees-Milne, and Pippa Strachey.
