Description
Letter from Vanessa Bell, La Souco, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, to Duncan Grant, Lismore Castle, Lismore, Co. Waterford, Ireland, written on 4 and 5 May. Bell is visiting Dorothy Bussy, author of 'Olivia' (1949), whom she agrees to paint, and her daughter Janie. Discusses a visit from Nobel Prize-winning novelist Roger Martin du Gard and her dislike of the work of Dorothy's recently deceased husband Simon. Also mentions the recent deaths of two friends, Eily Darwin and Frances Campbell Dodgson (her fellow student at the Royal Academy Schools), Angelica Bell, Roger Fry, and André Gide.
