Dear Mr Ketterer,
Your catalogue has just arrived, many thanks. Kokoschka and I were surprised to find that the first item under his name, no. 950, is a picture we already know - and not a work by Kokoschka. It is one of a group of ten works, all signed OK, which were offered for sale along with an invented 'back story' by Frau Roitner and/or Herr Fritzemeier in the region of Zurich, Hamburg, Salzburg and Vienna. None of these pictures are by Kokoschka. I've heard it said that we declare pictures forgeries so that we can buy them cheaply. I assure you that we do not want to buy this picture.
You do, however, have two very fine drawings in your catalogue, and I envy you these a great deal. Nos 959 and 960.
I'm sending a carbon copy of this letter to Dr Hodin.
With best regards,
OK
