Description
[Translation/transcription]
Monday
My dear Master Hodinus,
This is to announce our return to London. It was dirty there too, only worse because of the interminable rain.
I wanted to quickly give you the Swiss data you asked for last time:
Winter 1908, first trip to Les Avants near Montreux, commissioned by Adolf Loos to paint Bessie Loos there. On this occasion I painted the winter landscape 'Vue sur le Dent du Midi' and the Duchess, the Count Montesquieu-Rohan, Verona. After new year 1909, when the hotels closed because the winter season was over, I travelled to Munich (for the first time), where I painted Gustav Meyrink. Then, because I was stranded there, Loos shipped me out and sent me back to Switzerland again in 1910 to paint the portrait of Auguste Forel at Sion near Aigle. On my trip to Munich, which also extended to Berlin, I had the idea, together with Walden, to turn 'Der Sturm' into a progressive art magazine for the avant-garde artists of the world, who were then despised for their attitudes towards academic art. As a result, 'Der Sturm' became an international art journal, having previously been just a two-page pamphlet, to which I had already contributed in 1908.
Please take these data as accurate because otherwise there will be inconsistencies, and I wish you much love. I must get to the studio where I have someone waiting.
Much love to you both, [illegible] locking you both in my heart, OK
