Dear Pepi,
Thank you very much for the [illegible] cards and kind thoughts. I’m addressing these scrawlings to Eton Avenue; I don’t know how much longer you’ll be in Cornwall. I’m still unwell but up and about and receiving treatment. I’ve actually been doing some painting, and I’m actually making some progress – if only I had more time and more strength. To make matters worse, J has also been unwell, with a high fever – though that’s more or less passed.
