Coinciding with the current exhibition That Continuous Thing: Artists and the Ceramics Studio 1920-Today, the seminar will showcase current thinking in three key areas – The Exhibition, The Object and The Studio.
Glenn Adamson is speaker for the Friday evening talk, talking about Peter Voulkos.
Glenn is currently Senior Scholar at the Yale Center for British Art, and Editor-at-Large of The Magazine Antiques. A curator and theorist who works across the fields of design, craft and contemporary art, he has previously been Director of the Museum of Arts and Design, New York; Head of Research at the V&A; and Curator at the Chipstone Foundation in Milwaukee. His publications include Art in the Making (2016, co-authored with Julia Bryan Wilson); Invention of Craft (2013); Postmodernism: Style and Subversion (2011); The Craft Reader (2010); and Thinking Through Craft (2007). He is the guest curator for Beazley Designs of the Year 10 at the Design Museum, London, which will open in October 2017.
The seminar on Saturday features a fascinating and influential line up of artists, curators and gallerists who will present on the themes in relation to their current practice. Guests include Glenn Adamson, co-curator of upcoming Things of Beauty Growing: British Studio Pottery; Aaron Angell, artist and co-curator of That Continuous Thing; Alison Britton, artist, writer and senior tutor at the Royal College of Art; Tommaso Corvi Mora, ceramicist and gallery director; Sarah Victoria Turner, Deputy Director for Research, the Paul Mellon Centre; Simon Olding, curator and Director Crafts Study Centre at the University for the Creative Arts; Katie Schwab, artist and current Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust resident at Porthmeor Studios, Katharine Stout, curator and Deputy Director at the ICA and Richard Slee, artist and Professor at University of the Arts, London.
