UNIQLO Tate Play: Dream Buildings

2–18 April 2022

Use hammers, saws and drills to build and transform your own play space inspired by Lubaina Himid, with UNIQLO Tate Play

Get ready to Play-Build-Dream with the help of constructive play experts Woodland Tribe who will be on hand to bring your ideas to life. It’s all about making and shaping using hammers, saws and drills.

In her current Tate Modern exhibition, artist Lubaina Himid explores dreams, beauty, risk-taking and imagined spaces. She is passionate about the designs and build of the spaces we live in. So now it’s your turn: she would like you to imagine and build your own city in the Turbine Hall.

Using huge quantities of wood and real tools, the space will be transformed into an adventure playground built by children inspired by artist Lubaina Himid’s blueprints of doorways, wheeled things and more.  The only thing we ask is that you dream big, build as fast as your imagination will let you, and have fun!

Once the building is done, the whole family can join in the fun together, so get ready to experience the world of play, where anything is possible. Find out more about Lubaina Himid's exhibition.

Suitable for over 5’s only.

Please note: As we are working with real wood, you may get tree sap on your clothing during this activity so please wear clothing that you don't mind getting messy.

Drop-in activities

Suitable for all ages. Book a free Collections route ticket for drop-in. Please note this will not give you entry to the Dream Building with tools, for which you need a separate booked timed ticket.

Dream Days

If building isn’t for you, come to one of our Dream Days instead on 6, 11, and 14 April. We’ll be doing a variety of colourful craft activities in the Turbine Hall.

Playscape Space

Under 5's and their families can drop in to our relaxed Playscape Space, filled with soft objects to build sculptures, dens and explore together.
