Have fun casting shadows and exploring enchanting light play in the Tanks at Tate Modern!
Inspired by our A World in Common: Contemporary African Photography exhibition, we want you to create dream-like spiritual worlds and imagined futures using immersive light, glowing and translucent objects and mirrored surfaces. Watch as your magical scenes, shapes and textures project with light and shade.
Make your mark on our glow wall and create vivid ‘shadow photos’ using UV torches and lights. You’ll also have endless enjoyment creating and moving translucent objects that you can magnify and see on five large overhead projectors – creating a glorious stream of shapes and patterns as far as the eye can see! Using materials like PVC, acetate and card you can make your own designs and puppets to light up the projectors.
Under 5s can explore light, shadow and reflection through sensory play using accessible light sources and many textures, colours, mirrors and glowing objects. Even tiny changes and movements will light up the walls in a big way. Also, we’ll have plenty of soft spaces for your little ones to read and reflect, so even the youngest in the family will have a magical, illuminating experience.
