Movement is medicine.... and we want you to move, make and shake in this dance and craft making workshop, with hourly dance sessions for smaller groups. We'll be working with choreographer Vidya Patel who’ll create a beautiful routine of movement, ritual, sound and words – and of course, you’ll get to join in!
This relaxed hours and BSL session is primarily for neurodivergent children and adults, and any other visitors with sensory or BSL needs who prefer a more relaxed experience, plus their families, friends and carers.
Those who are looking for a playful-yet-still-relaxing hour to start the day can visit the space and still enjoy some dancing – just with smaller groups so we can support any additional needs you might have.
There will be reduced sound for the first 90 minutes for those looking for a quieter experience. The sound will then resume for the final hour.
This will take place in the Turbine Hall, alongside the vast, ceiling-height artwork created by artist Cecilia Vicuña. Her work has been inspired by the Amazon rainforests and has been named the Brain Forest Quipu.
This is a workshop of two parts – the making and the moving. You’ll begin by getting creative and making a wearable quipu, followed by an optional guided movement workshop.
We’ll explore themes like the environment and life cycles – using nature to inspire our movements and connect with our breath and bodies. We’ll be using natural and recycled materials (like those used in the Quipu) to make hanging items to wear as we move and dance under the work. The whole family is invited to dance and have fun.
Resources will be available on the day including:
- BSL interpretation
- Access Station
- Reduced music
- Ear defenders
- A quiet breakout space
- Slightly limited admissions so fewer people in the space
Tate staff will be aware that this is an access hour and will take that into consideration as they look after you and the artwork.
