Rebecca Horn: Performances

7 May 2016 at 12.00–16.00
There are two figures in a white room. On is standing, wearing a cadge-like costume with feathers on it. The second sits cross-legged behind wearing black clothing.

A special display of Rebecca Horn’s early performance film compilations.

This free Collection Display presents Rebecca Horn's two performance film compilations in sequence throughout the day. In these works, In Performances I and Performances II, Horn experiments with stop motion visual tricks and animal mimicry. These works also document the original use of Horn’s striking ‘body sculptures’, masks and prosthetic appendages which are meant to explore and enhance one’s sensorial relationship with both his or her surrounding space and with other people.

Performances I

Germany 1972, 16mm transferred to video, colour, sound, 19 min

Includes footage of Red Limbs, Blue-Blue-Blue, Red Breast, Black Expansion, Growing Hair / Bad Dream, Black Cockfeathers, Head Balance, Shoulder Extensions and Feather Instrument.

Performances II

Includes footage of Unicorn, Head Extension, White Body Fan, Finger Gloves, Feather Finger, Gavin, Cockfeather Mask, Pencil Mask and Cockatoo Mask.
