‘Pictures’ is a word that has become synonymous with photographs, encompassing vernacular uses of photography. From the 1980s, photography as ‘picture’ acquired a very different meaning through the association with large-scale colour photographic prints, assertive of its place in the museum. This seminar enables participants to further explore and discuss the issues raised by the panel Photographs/Pictures.
The seminar is limited to 20 participants and is led by Joanna Lowry and Olga Smith.
A selection of texts will form the basis of discussion at the seminar. Details of the text will be made available to participants.
