Artist and composer Pan Daijing’s new experimental play Tissues is presented alongside The Absent Hour, an expanded performance installation.
The Absent Hour reassembles fragments that came together to make Tissues into a contemplative experience. It can be seen as both a kernel and a trace of its sister work. The composition evolves through six distinctly-themed, hour-long acts: the blue hour, the empty hour, the red hour, the live hour, the dark hour and the silent hour. These are interrupted by spontaneous performances by Daijing and her cast, expanding moments of emotional intensity in the score and challenging the work from within itself.
The Absent Hour approaches the virtuosity of the trained voice and body acts as an instrument to examine, deconstruct and reformulate its poignant arrangement. The environment that builds from the cast's actions and energy over its six-hour duration primes the space for the evening performance
