The aesthetic language of the these two artists presents similar characteristics including the mix of different cultural elements, the theme of the tribal mask, union of sacred and profane, history and myth, sensuality and indifference as well as the symbolic and subjective style of representation and self-representation.

Biographies
Luigi Ontani (Grizzana Morandi, 1943) is a versatile Italian artist known throughout the world for his “tableaux vivants”, filmed and photographed performances in which Ontani is self-portrayed as figures from mythology, history and Italian literature. His work is distinguished by an untiring enthusiasm for experimentation that from the 1960s through to the present day has encouraged his heterogeneous use of artistic techniques such as sculpture, photography, performance and watercolours. Luigi Ontani has exhibited in the most important international museum including PS1 in New York, MAMBO in Bologna, the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale. He is the author of several essays and publications that have a particular focus on Italian artists of different generations.
Bartolomeo Pietromarchi (Rome, 1968), is a critic and curator of contemporary art. In
2016, He has been appointed Director of MAXXI Art, National Museum of the 21st
Century Arts, Rome. From 2011 to 2013 He has been the Director of MACRO –
Museum of Contemporary Art, Rome. He curated the Italian Pavilion of the 55th
Venice Biennale (2013). In addition to his intensive curatorial research,
Bartolomeo Pietromarchi has been lecturing in several Italian and international
Universities for many years. He is the author of several essays and
publications that have a particular focus on Italian artists of different
generations.
